RIP Trattoria Uno Italian restaurant, Quezon City, Philippines

by Remedios M. Lim
(Quezon City, Philippines)

Trattoria Uno has always been a must-go place when you are in the Phillipines.

Located at the Business Center West of Manila, this cozy Italian restaurant boasts authentic Italian dishes. One must-try is their spaghetti al nero (with black squid ink sauce... oh so yummy!!!).

When I was a student in college, I would often see this cozy, dimly-lit restaurant on the 2nd floor of a mall in Araneta Center. I would always tell myself - someday, I'll afford to dine here every so often, as I really love Italian cuisine even though I have Chinese blood in me (I prefer pasta to the good 'ol Chinese noodles).

Eventually, I got the chance to work for the company that runs and manages the mall, cinemas and everything else in Araneta Center, so it was a dream-come-true!

Lunch or dinner, you will find me either entertaining visitors, business partners, co-employees and even members of my family at Trattoria Uno. I became so fond of the place that I practically know every member of the team - from the waiters and cooks to the supervisor.

It became an advantage because I am able to make "little" requests to make my meals more enjoyable, sort of customizing my order the way I want it prepared. Here is where we normally bring our local movie actors, entertainers, and even politicians to enjoy our best meal suggestions.

But today, I am kind of melancholic because the place I call my refuge and where I feel most comfortable has now been closed to give way to modern renovations of the mall, and the owners have decided to come up with a more modern restaurant (sigh)...

When I get a chance to go to Italy, I guess the first thing I would want to do is to look for a trattoria which serves the best spaghetti al nero.

How sad!
by: Matt - Pasta Recipes Made Easy

Hey Remedios and thanks so much for this heartfelt story.

It's certainly bittersweet this one... I'm delighted for you that you got there, but sad to hear it's now no more.

Time to start the hunt for your next Trattoria Uno!

:-)

Matt.
