Cook In Italy Cooking Classes - In Turin, Tuscany Or Sorrento

Cook in Italy cooking classes are a fully immersive affair and can be taken as a standalone gourmet cooking holiday or used to fill part of a larger Italian tour. The company's friendly sessions are offered in three Italian locations - choose a hearty foodie break in mountainous Turin, country-style kitchen fun in the sunny rolling hills of Tuscany, or the stunning coastal views of Sorrento in the south.

Established back in 2000, the Cook in Italy school is the brainchild of Federico Crova, a tour operator and chef who lives in Turin in the North Eastern Piedmont region of Italy (the host city of the 20th Winter Olympics in 2006), where Cook In Italy is now based.

He started however in sunny Tuscany, where he first opened his family villa in Elba Island to guests. This glorious 19th century construction with its 400 working olive trees was bought by Federico's grandfather in the 1940's and although courses are not typically run from there these days, Federico does still organize some extra-special sessions there on request.

In 2006 Federico decided to open another school in Turin, his hometown, and then in 2008 Cook in Italy joined forces with Carattere Toscano to enable it to offer new courses in Tuscany. Sorrento-based courses on the south's stunning rocky coast followed thereafter.

As Federico puts it, his aim was “to be able to give to people coming to Italy the opportunity of getting in touch with the most authentic and genuine Italian food traditions”. To this end, he has enlisted the help of numerous other Italian chefs, all of whom are highly enthused about sharing their passion for cooking and Italian cuisine.

Where do classes take place?

With Cook in Italy cooking classes, the typical approach is that you choose a location – say Turin itself, the Chianti region of Tuscany or the glorious Sorrento coast, close to Naples in the South, then you choose the length of cooking vacation you want to take - either a half-week or seven full days of delectable education.

Italy cooking courseWherever you choose, you will be put up in beautiful 4- or 5-star surroundings. For example, choose the company's Sorrento-based cooking course and you'll rest your head in a luxurious resort in the hills of Sant’Agata sui due Golfi, with spellbinding views of the Sorrento Penisula and built-in rustic coastal romance.

In addition to a hands-on cooking eduation, you will have the chance to learn about the local area through a range of museum, gallery and shopping trips, and of course you'll meet plenty of other Italophile foodies who will get creative alongside you.

If you have the time, budget and inclination to take off on a longer grand tour of the land of the boot, you could even combine CookinItaly cooking classes in different cities to form a more extensive, once-in-a-lifetime Italian cooking vacation.

Who teaches the classes?

Due to the size of his organization these days, booking Italy cooking classes with CookinItaly doesn’t guarantee you face-time with Federico himself, however his team of locally-born chefs are wonderful coaches in their own right. You will be perfectly entertained, educated and enthralled, whichever location and course you opt for.

What types of dish and cooking techniques are covered?

The dishes you can expect to learn vary to a degree on which area of Italy you choose to decamp to. Certainly, pizza and focaccia bread will feature, as will fresh pasta and seafood stalwarts like zuppa di pesce.

When do classes take place?

Cook in Italy cooking classes take place throughout the year. There are no schedules publicly available on the Cook In Italy website. Instead you need to just enquire directly with the company, concerning whichever course you like the look of (Turin, Tuscany or Sorrento and the duration), and they will advise you personally what dates are possible.
